Oh good God, mild and gentle God
you dear friend, wise counselor and powerful friend!
What is cruel and unloving man,
of a humble way and gracious host
sells out of his heart!
Welch unhappy and disastrous exchange: to
his Creator reject and evil, impure thoughts
so suddenly into the secret bridal chamber of the Holy Spirit,
in the interior of the heart involved,
that was recently filled with heavenly bliss;
in this heart that's warmed by the presence of the groom
and already burns by evil desires!
What shame!
The ears, which have just heard words
like no human lips can express it,
hear gossip now on fables and evil;
the eyes that were just washed in
bath of holy baptism of tears,
business to suddenly vanities;
The tongue, which recently sang a sweet song
bride and her ardent love and induced convincing eloquence
the groom, had the bride to lean towards mercy
and "in his wine cellar led" (Song 2:4),
now returns to frivolous talk, indecent jokes,
to lies and slander back!
Keep us, O Lord, from such deep case!
