We have been looking at the past two evenings, the DVD of "The Mists of Avalon". Was very nice. I am aware of the book by Marion Zimmer Bradley, but sometimes that's just as well. Often, the film then cuts off even worse.
Here is a summary:
The film begins with Morgaine moves in a boat through the fog and told their story. It begins in childhood. Morgaine lives with her mother Igraine and her aunt Morgause in Cornwall. Her father is rare because of the war and the constant attacks of the Saxons at home.
Igraine and Morgause come from the mythical island of Avalon and belong to the old religion. You have second sight and can see into the future. Morgaine also has this gift. One day her eldest aunt Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, with Merlin the Magician at the castle and Igraine prophesied a son, but not by her husband will come.
soon learns Indeed Igraine Uther Pendragon and falls, as both members of the old religion and are sure to know from another life. Igraine's husband then tried to kill Uther what was going wrong but thoroughly.

The man was Arthur, Merlin asks him about the virgin to tell Hunter that it was very fascinating. But Merlin said to him that he will never see her again.
Finally, grab the Saxons again and Uther dies in battle. Arthur is the new king, after he pulled Avalon Excalibur sword from the stone.
Morgaine returns to the coronation festivities back to Camelot and take on Gwenhwyfar remarry, the woman who Arthur is.
But Arthur told her about another woman with whom he is actually in love and he has met during the Beltane night. Morgaine is shocked when she realizes that Vivian has sent her own brother to her and she now pregnant with his child. And for only the future of Avalon and the continuation of the old religion and the power of the Great Goddess.
Arthur and Morgaine unaware of it brings her baby in secret in the castle of her aunt Morgause to the world. It takes over the education of Mordred and Morgaine finally returns to Avalon.
Meanwhile Gwenhwyfar desperately trying to get pregnant. What they do not know: Morgause it is a curse, so that Mordred will eventually king.
turns in desperation to Gwenhwyfar Lancelot, who loves her still, but out of loyalty to his king and best friend Arthur fighting against this love.
But then both fled, according to a plot that has forged the now adult Mordred. Gwenhwyfar enters the monastery of Glastonburrey, where she meets Morgaine, seeks refuge there after Merlin died and was refused entry to Viviane of Avalon. Morgaine's mother Igraine now heads the monastery in which she sought refuge after Uther's death.
deadly in a recent meeting between Mordred, Morgaine and Viviane violates this Morgause, after which kills Mordred Vivian. Thus Morgaine the new Lady of the Lake.
Then grab the Saxons again. Mordred is killed and Arthur difficult team as well injured. His final request to Morgaine: You should bring him home. To Avalon.
But Morgaine has lost its power. She manages to briefly lift the fog, Arthur sees the island, but then he dies. The fog comes back and Avalon will disappear forever.
All in all, the film runs nearly 3 hours, but no dull moment. Some aspects of the history we know of course how the Arthurian legend, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin, Lancelot and Gwenhwyfar
etc. The whole thing is filmed beautifully, well-cast and played. The atmosphere is very good over the conflict between the old religion and Christianity.
