From all this we can conclude that the reading without meditation is barren, the meditation goes astray without the reading, prayer, meditation, without the lukewarm and the meditation is barren without prayer. The zealous prayer acquired contemplation, but the gift of contemplation without prayer would be a rare limited exception or a miracle. The Lord, whose power is incalculable and whose mercy all his Plants surrounds can indeed awakened out of stones children of Abraham, in which he moved harsh and stubborn hearts to the good, and "take the bull by the horns" as a miracle of his grace, as they say in the vernacular, that is, stop off in the soul without been called to be and gives her to be without looking. If this is indeed the case sometimes, as we read it in Paul and some others, we must therefore not yet presumptuously expect such favors and try not to God. Rather, we simply have to do what depends on us: The law of the Lord, meditate and ask him, he himself may come to the aid of our weakness and look at our misery. It has even taught himself when he said: "Ask and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock and the door will be opened" (Matt. 7:7). For here on earth "is the kingdom of heaven Gewaltangetan, and the violent take it by force" (MT11, 12).
